What Are Executive Functioning Skills?

They are a set of cognitive abilities that help us plan, focus, regulate emotions, and adapt to change. Executive functioning skills include organization, planning, prioritization, time management, and others. Self-management skills are increasingly important in a complex world with many distractions and competing priorities.

People who learn these skills are better equipped to achieve long term success.

One-to-One Coaching Overview

Coaching helps students develop the skills to maintain focus, self-assess, set goals, and execute on them. X-Skills coaches have the experience to support learners in achieving their goals by using a process of discovery, prioritization, commitment, and follow up.

Tutor Doctor’s X-Skills Program

Our 12-week foundational program supports students in developing a strong skills base that they will continue to build upon as they mature.

Tutor Doctor’s X-Skills Program

Our 12-week foundational program supports students in developing a strong skills base that they will continue to build upon as they mature.

We follow a proven coaching methodology that allows the student to clarify and set realistic goals. Each week we work with your student to plan, commit, execute, and review the goals they set.

Regular session reports and the X-Skills Scorecard will help everyone evaluate progress and recognize the new self-awareness being developed through the coaching process.

Still Have Questions?

Why is your program 12-weeks long? Do you offer shorter options?

Coaching is a process. Developing new skills and changing habits take time. Results will vary depending on where your student starts and their individual needs, however, we believe a minimum of 12 weeks will lay out a foundation upon which future development can be attained. We don’t currently offer shorter programs.

How is X-Skills coaching different from academic tutoring?

Academic tutoring focuses on a specific subject skill such as mathematics, chemistry, english, etc., while X-Skills coaching focuses on fundamental skills such as time management, planning, self-awareness, and others. These skills will help students not only deal with immediate academic crises, but build resilience, reduce stress, and attain long term success.

How are sessions tailored to the needs of each student?

The combination of a highly qualified tutor, working with the student’s classroom curriculum, understanding their learning style, and working in coordination with the parents and teachers allows us to tailor the sessions to the student’s needs.

What does the program look like on weekly basis?

The timeless principles that we follow is planning, commitment, and follow up. Each week we will meet with the student to plan and reflect on the previous week’s progress (this session can last up to 30 mins). A second check-in session will happen later in the week to assess follow-through and adapt to any changes.

Why start early on?

When your child begins to practice habits early on, they are retained and strengthened throughout the process. When the brain is learning in adolescence, these skills are much more likely to remain a solidified habit that will last a lifetime! This means your child will be equipped to excel in all areas, not just academic pursuits.

Testimonials

"I’m really pleased that Ela seems to have a really good grip on her planner – it barely takes us any time to go over her due and completed tasks during Planning sessions and she has usually already set her priorities before the session."

Coach

"Benjamin definitely feels that the program is super valuable and is hoping that there will be a version that he can enroll in when he starts university next year. He just got early acceptance into the BScN program of his choice and he says x-skills really helped him keep away from the stress of being disorganized and in the end, getting the extra marks. It's a really great program thank you! ”

"Harvey's really enjoying it. It's just what he needed. Even tidying his room is part of his schedule."
